John Fetterman, US Senator of Pennsylvania, has been a strong and steadfast supporter of the Jewish people, of the State of Israel and for fighting against antisemitism. In November of 2023, Fetterman draped himself in an Israel flag as he joined the nearly 300,000 people gathered on the National Mall in Washington, DC. He stated, “When I heard how they tortured, mutilated, and murdered families, I thought to myself that if that was my family, I’d say that that kind of evil should not be allowed to endure. It has to be destroyed. And I cannot imagine why the entire world would not be appalled by that kind of barbarism.” In June of 2023, Fetterman went to Israel for his first time on an official visit to discuss Hamas’ illicit financing with Israeli officials. However, he was personally empowered to be there to acquaint himself with a country that he ardently supported since Hamas’ October 7 attack. To help fight the against antisemitism, especially on college campuses, Fetterman helped re-introduced the Protecting Students on Campus Act in January of 2025. This piece of legislation would empower students to file civil rights complaints if they experience violence or harassment on college campuses due to their heritage.
